MATHINNA

Mathinna

By Bangarra Dance Co.

"Inspired by a young girl's journey between two cultures"

Born on Tasmania's Flinder's Island in 1835, adopted into the household of Governor Sir John and Lady Franklin, sent to the Queen's Orphan School and ultimately abandoned with her people at Oyster Cove, Mathinna's story is one of vulnerability and searching in an era of confusion and intolerance.

"Mathinna" is choreographed by Bangarra's Artistic Director, Stephen Page.

Bangarra has firmly established itself throughout Australia and the world as a dance company with a unique style, committed to the traditions of Indigenous culture entwined with contemporary western dance. Acclaimed from New York and London to outback Australia, Bangarra presents a new work certain to remain with you long after you leave the theatre.
